James Williamson '80, '85 Selected for Board of Trustees

James "Jimmie" Williamson '80, '85 will join the Winthrop University's Board of Trustees on July 1 as the alumni representative. Fellow alumni selected Williamson during a three-month online election, which ended March 20.

The Cheraw, S.C., resident is chief human capital officer at Agapé Senior, a faith-based provider of long-term care for senior adults. He retired after 28 years in higher education, having served as president of two S.C. technical colleges and as a faculty member or administrator at five colleges/universities, including Winthrop.

Williamson earned a bachelor’s degree in visual arts in 1980 and a M.Ed. in 1985, both from Winthrop, and then a Ph.D. from the University of South Carolina in 1994. Williamson has served on the Alumni Association Executive Board, received the Alumni Association Professional Achievement Award in 2001 and joined the D.B. Johnson Society as an inaugural member.

Williamson will assume Francis Davenport’s seat when she ends her term June 30. His term, which begins July 1, continues through June 30, 2018.
