X-PEM Breakfast and Golf Tournament Planned for April 30
The Department of Physical Education, Sport and Human Performance has a full day of activities planned for Physical Education alumni (X-PEMS) on April 30.
X-PEMS are invited to celebrate the achievements of three alumnae during the Distinguished Alumni Awards Breakfast. This year’s honorees are Kathie Hite James ’70, member of the Winthrop Athletic Hall of Fame and LPGA golfer; Anne Long ’74, outstanding basketball coach and teacher; and Starla McCollum ’82, researcher and teacher educator.
In addition, current outstanding students will also be recognized at the event with the presentation of the PESH Department Scholarships and Awards. The event will also celebrate the lives and contributions of Frances Hogan '43, Mary Sue Britton McElveen '43, Mary Roland Griffin '50 and Harriet "Boots" Bandy '58.
The breakfast will take place in Tuttle Dining Room inside McBryde Hall from 9 – 10:30 a.m. Reservations are required for the event. Contact Dr. Stevie Chepko at 803/323.3688 or chepkos@winthrop.edu.
Following the awards breakfast, X-PEMS are invited to participate in the Second Annual Physical Education Scholarship Golf Tournament to support the future of the Department of Physical Education, Sport and Human Performance through the Bert Bobb and Mickey Taylor Scholarship Fund.
The tournament will begin with a Captain’s Choice shotgun start at 12:15 p.m. at Pinetuck Golf Course in Rock Hill, SC.
The event is $75 per person / $275 Team of four, and the entry fee covers green fees, cart, snack and "Goody Bag.” Prizes are given for the first and second place teams, closest to the pin, straightest drive, and longest drive. Raffle tickets are also be available throughout the tournament.
In addition, Kathie Hite James '70 is also offering a special Golf Clinic before the tournament at 11 a.m. This is a free chance to learn some tips from a former LPGA golfer.
