<< BackHelp Winthrop Alumni Go Green
Winthrop’s Alumni Association is committed to preserving your Winthrop campus one tree at a time, and now you can help.
Over the next year, the Winthrop Alumni Association will continue its shift to more online communication in an effort to go green and be more fiscally responsible. We will continue to use email increasingly for many event invitations, the Winthrop Update newsletter, the annual report and notes from class chairs, for example. Please note that alumni and donors will still receive some communication via mail.
The alumni website (www.winthropalumni.com) displays all active news stories about Winthrop and its alumni and donors, and it also has information on all alumni events and many campus events. In addition, social networking sites like Facebook, Twitter, and LinkedIn also have information for alumni and offer a platform for alumni to interact with us and each other.
You may be asking yourself why any of this matters. Here are two statistics to put things into perspective:
- A school with 23,000 alumni typically uses 15 tons of wood annually in its communications, which is equivalent to 105 trees. Winthrop has more than 40,000 alumni.
- In addition to the paper savings, Winthrop Alumni Association saved more than $60,000 in postal costs during the past year by sending more email. This means that instead of spending annual dollars on mailings, we are ensuring that more funds are going directly to support student and alumni activities.
Now this is where you come in.
By registering your email address with the alumni online community, you are telling us that you want to receive your communication via email. If you have already registered, you can update your email address if you have a new one. The registration process will only take five minutes. All you need is your alumni ID (click here to request your ID) and a valid email address. If you would like to register, click here.
