<< BackBelk Commissions Athletic Statutes for Winthrop University
Four new statues will soon be a part of the scenery at the Winthrop University Athletic Complex. Ike Belk, well-know Charlotte businessman and philanthropist, has commissioned four athletic figures to be created for Winthrop and installed at the Winthrop Athletic Complex during the spring semester.
The figures will depict athletes in four sports - women’s tennis, softball, men’s track, and men’s soccer - and each will bear a Winthrop University logo. Mr. Belk has given athletic figures to other regional schools, including UNC – Charlotte, Presbyterian College, Furman, and Lenoir Rhyne. Winthrop’s collection will be the only group to bear the school logo somewhere on each piece.
