Spring Phonathon Begins Next Week

Winthrop Fund

More than thirty Winthrop students will work the phones from Jan. 24 to March 31, 2011, for the Spring 2011 Phonathon. They will contact alumni and parents about Winthrop activities and to solicit them for unrestricted financial support of the Winthrop Fund. Students call Mon. to Thurs. from 6 to 9 p.m.

The goal for this semester’s phonathon is $250,000, which supports academic scholarships, rewards for outstanding faculty and staff, Alumni Association activities and other university initiatives on an annual basis.

“We received a lot of applications for students wanting to work with Phonathon, and I am confident that the best students were hired. This allows me to have high expectations for reaching our goal over the next nine weeks,” said Portia Myers ’09, assistant director of annual giving and Phonathon manager.

Myers added, "Working as a student caller since my freshman year and now managing the Phonathon, I have been able to see the importance of our student callers having the necessary training to make simple, yet meaningful conversations with alumni. When I was a student caller, I enjoyed the engagement and networking opportunities I made while on the phone. The conversations truly opened my mind to how Winthrop had been in the past and allowed me to enjoy my Winthrop experience even more.”
