The votes have been tallied, and the new official name of Winthrop’s Alumni Online Community is “MyWinthrop.”
Bragging rights go to Shane Duncan ’98, Thomas Reid ’10 and Jeremy Sowells, who will graduate in May. The three submitted very similar names and will all be recognized as the naming competition winners by receiving a special Homecoming prize pack.
“I am honored and humbled that "My Winthrop" was chosen as the name of the new online community, because each of us had a unique college experience that made Winthrop personal to them,” said Duncan.
Recent alumnus Reid said, “I am thrilled to be a part of this, and I am smiling from ear to ear.”
Sowells added, “I am just proud to be able to call my Winthrop my home.”
“MyWinthrop” drew 46% of the more than 1,100 votes submitted during the ten-day voting period.
The naming competition for the Alumni Online Community began in early October. The Student Alumni Council narrowed down the list of more than sixty-five submitted name suggestions to their top three choices: "Eagle Nation," "Garnet and Gold Connection" and "MyWinthrop." Alumni then voted on their favorite name.
“I am excited about Winthrop’s online community for its alumni, students, and friends. Staying connected is vitally important and Winthrop continues to play an important role in connecting with my peers during "MyWinthrop" experience,” said Duncan.
The Winthrop Alumni Association launched its alumni online community a year ago. Features include the ability to instantly update personal information, an alumni directory, and online event registrations.
