Winthrop alumni have the opportunity to elect two members to the Winthrop University Board of Trustees to represent alumni interests. The last Trustee Election was held in 2010. The two alumnae elected to the Board are Frances Cunningham Davenport '59 and Jane Lawton LaRoche '69.

Frances Davenport

Frances Cunningham Davenport
Elected to a 6-year term

Frances earned a B.A. in religious education in 1959. She currently serves as chair of the Annual Fund Loyalty Council and as a member of the Winthrop University Foundation Board of Directors. Frances has also served as AFLC representative to the Alumni Association executive board, Founders Circle Chair of the Alumni Annual Giving Steering Committee, a member of the Winthrop University Foundation Board and as class agent and reunion gift chair for the class of 1959. Retired from teaching, Frances serves as a board member for the United Way of Laurens County and volunteers as a mentor in local schools and as a juvenile arbitrator for the judicial circuit.

Jane Lawton LaRoche
Elected to a 6-year term

Jane earned a B.A. in Spanish in 1969 followed by a B.S. in physical education in 1970 from Winthrop and an M.D. in 1974 from Medical University of South Carolina. She is a member of the Kershaw County Alumni Club and serves as class agent and reunion gift chair for the class of 1970. She has previously served as an Annual Fund Loyalty Council member, a class reunion chair and was recognized in 2005 as one of the “Distinguished Alumni in Physical Education”. Jane is an ER physician at the Barnwell County hospital and is a member and fellow of the American College of Physicians –American Society of Internal Medicine, the American Geriatrics Society, S. C. American Medical Association, the American College of Emergency Physicians and the American Association of Physician Specialists, Inc. She is member of the Camden Community Concert Band, Camden Community Theatre orchestra and the Fine Art Center of Kershaw
