Thomas Reid '10


Pay a visit to Thomas Reid at his place of business, and there will be no need to point out the pesky elephant in the room. He knows she's there; in fact, he probably fed her breakfast.

In fact, feeding, caring for and training 15,000-pound, 13-foot-tall creatures tops Reid's to-do list most every morning. The Memphis Zoo employee works closely with the zoo's three female African elephants, Tyranza, Gina and Asali. Reid, who earned a B.S. in biology (minor in anthropology) at Winthrop, relishes this quality time and enjoys building relationships with Earth's largest land animal ... which just so happens to be Reid's favorite animal.
